Below is a brief discussion of some of the numerous temporary (nonimmigrant) visa categories:

H-1B Visas:
Available to specialty workers (positions requiring at least a bachelor’s degree), fashion models, and their immediate family members.

H-2 Visas:
Available to temporary/seasonal agricultural workers, certain temporary unskilled workers, and their immediate family members.

TN Visas:
Available to certain professionals from Canada and Mexico, and their immediate family members.

E Visas:
Available to traders and investors from countries that have a treaty of commerce and navigation with the U.S., and their immediate family members.

L Visas:
Available to intracompany transferees that are executives or manager, transferees with specialized knowledge, and their immediate family members.

O Visas:
Available to individuals with extraordinary ability in sciences, athletics, business, education, arts, those with extraordinary achievements in the television and motion picture industries, and their essential support staff and immediate family members.

P Visas:
Available to certain professional athletes, performers, performing groups, entertainers, artists, and their essential support staff and immediate family members.

R Visas:
Available to ministers, religious workers, and their immediate family members.
